Prior to certifying the results, Registrar of Voters conducted several post-election voting system tests and audits.
SANTA ANA, CA – April 30, 2025 – Registrar of Voters Bob Page today completed the canvass of the April 15, 2025 City of Irvine Special Municipal Election (Council District 5) and submitted the results to the City Clerk for certification.
Pursuant to California Elections Code section 10262, the City Clerk is expected to present the certified results to the City Council no later than Friday, May 9, 2025, to declare the winner of the office of City Council District 5.
Total voter turnout for the City of Irvine’s Council District 5 was 27.6 percent. Of the 8,003 ballots cast by City of Irvine Council District 5 voters and counted, 94.9 percent cast a Vote-By-Mail ballot and 5.1 percent cast an in-person ballot at one of two Vote Centers in City of Irvine Council District 5.
Prior to certification, a One Percent Manual Tally audit was completed to verify the results of the election.
The legally required One Percent Manual Tally examined and manually tallied 513 ballots from one precinct. The hand count results were then compared with the election results that were produced by the County’s voting system.
The outcome of the One Percent Manual Tally provided additional confirmation that the results of the election were correct. Details on the audit can be found at ocvote.gov/audit.
A post-election logic and accuracy test of Orange County's voting system equipment and software was also conducted. Test ballots were fed through all ballot scanning devices used in the election, and all the votes on the test ballots were accurately counted.
