City Employee Poll Worker Program
You're invited to join other volunteers who are signing up to serve their communities on Election Day. Serving as a City Poll Worker is a way to show Orange County citizens the value our city government places on the American electoral process.
The Registrar of Voters must staff and manage 1232 polling places for the November 2, 2010 General Election. To accomplish this task we depend on the commitment to civic-minded citizens who are trained to assist at the polls in the management of the many complexities of the Election Day process.
Along with other Election Day poll operation changes, the County's electronic voting system now includes a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) unit. These new requirements make the skills and professionalism of City Poll Workers especially important. City employees who volunteer to serve will receive training on poll operations and the county's voting equipment.
This important recruitment is open to all city employees. Bilingual Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese speaking employees are especially needed to meet the requirements of the Voting Rights Act.
Help us meet the following goals:
• Provide trained staff at poll locations on Election Day
• Increase and strengthen the availability of bilingual poll workers
• Maintain a reliable force of trained poll workers
• Reinforce electronic voting in Orange County
We know you understand that conducting an election requires a great deal of coordination, so when you sign-up you become an important element of this intricately woven process. Because we depend on you we require a commitment.
Before you sign up, please be sure you can commit to working from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. While all efforts are made to place volunteers as close to home as possible, it is not a guarantee. We have been successful in accommodating most requests in the past. Emergencies are
inevitable, but we do require a valid reason to cancel within 15 days
of an election.
For serving, you will receive:
• A stipend of $100 to serve as an Inspector, a Coordinator, or the A-Team
• A stipend of $75 to serve as a Clerk
• A stipend of $20 to complete required training
