The E-Minus calendar is at 175 days until the Presidential Primary Election.
The ROV needs approximately 4200 more poll workers to work the Presidential Primary Election.
County Poll Workers are encouraged to become Coordinators in 2008. For more information please contact Dennis White at 714-567-7575.

The ROV will recruit approximately 1200 polling sites for the February Presidential Primary.

Nearly 5,000 people visited our display at the OC Fair. Hundreds registered to vote, signed up to be a poll worker, took our trivia tests and received general information about elections.

» Update from the Registrar of Voters                        
I want to give a quick thank you to all of you that volunteered for the June 5, 2007 Yorba Linda Special Election. You did a fantastic job! We were able to certify the election within a couple of days and now, as fall of 2007 approaches, we are gearing up for a demanding 2008 election cycle. Additionally, our office is being kept busy verifying thousands of signatures on initiative and recall petitions from various jurisdictions throughout the county.

Randy Styner credits the County Poll Worker Program for making it “easy to participate” in elections.  As a Disaster Planner for Environmental Health with the Orange County Health Care Agency and former Marine, Styner is no stranger to logistics and simplifying processes - two areas in his estimation that the Registrar of Voters excels.  This document from the Secretary of State is our guideline for counting votes and is used in all elections (including recounts).
» Secretary of State's Decision on Voting Systems   Last week Secretary of State Debra Bowen decertified three electronic voting systems in California, including our system. In the same breath, she recertified the voting systems based on certain conditions being met. We are pleased that we will be allowed to use our system in the polling places in 2008. Counties with the other two systems will have limited use of their system (one disabled access unit per polling place) and have to undergo more rigorous auditing. This decision is a testament to our voting system and the checks and balances we already have in place. 
 
» Recruitment Hitting Stride                                 Early returns from the Availability Notice we sent out for the 2008 election cycle are in. Approximately 3,600 of you volunteered to work for the February election. This is a fantastic beginning to our recruitment season that will hit full swing starting in September. It is never too early to volunteer. If you have not already done so, call us now to reserve your spot to be part of Presidential Primary History! » Preventing Voter Intimidation                              
As you know from experience, working at the polls on Election Day involves much more than setting up the polling place and processing voters.  As a poll worker, you are also responsible for creating an environment that is comfortable for all voters.  While looking out for electioneering within 100 feet of the polling place is important, preventing voter intimidation begins with your level of sensitivity toward others.  Being mindful of the racial, ethnic and cultural makeup of your precinct voters and offering assistance to voters with specific needs when appropriate are two ways you can ensure the right to vote for all.  Your ability to leave political opinions and other biases outside the polling place is part of what distinguishes the American electoral system as the best in the world.
