» Final Countdown Underway
With just seven days to go we are in the final countdown to the 2008 Presidential Election.  We are expecting a busy day and I am confident each of you will manage any lines that may develop and continue to communicate with voters.  Keep in mind that if in doubt you can let the voter vote provisionally.  Please read this newsletter for important last minute items and thank you for participating in a truly historic election.

Neal Kelley, Registrar of Voters

» More Paper Ballots = Heavier Supply Box

We are sending out a record number of paper ballots to your poll sites.  Over 800,000 paper ballots will be distributed in anticipation of heavy turnout.  Please remember voters have the option to request a paper ballot at anytime.  In addition, if voting booths experience issues you can continue voting voters on paper ballots.  Please use assistance if your supply box is too heavy (those with multiple precincts will have warning labels attached).

»Secretary of State Re-Certification for Use of Hart Voting System
Following the "Top-to-Bottom" voting system review by the Secretary of State our voting system was re-certified subject to these terms.
»Calendar for Presidential General Election
The General Election will be taking place on November 4, 2008.  Much of our planning centers around this election calendar which highlights major milestones.
»Candidate Log for November General Election
With nearly 500 individuals on November's ballot following each contest can be difficult.  This list notes each candidate and their ballot designation for each contest.
»City and County Measure Information
November's ballot will have 13 city measures and 1 County measure.  This details each measure and provides voters information and background.
» Distribution of Voters in the Poll Site

A key to keeping all booths open and available for voters, thereby reducing lines, is to distribute voters to different booths. If voter after voter uses the same one or two booths early in the day and you don't have them using the other booths the VVPAT printers might run out of paper and those booths will become unavailable. Please be sure to utilize all booths and direct the voters evenly between the booths.

» Early Set Up of Poll Sites Recommended            Inspectors make plans now to set-up your polling place early. Arrange with your poll workers to get together the night before the Election to set-up the eBooths. The extra time you will have on Election Morning can make all the difference in getting a relaxed start to the day.  You can set up all supplies and eBooths the night before and simply connect the JBC on Election Morning.

» Record Student Recruitment                          Student recruitment is at its all-time highest and that means more students need to be trained. We have already taken our training to 16 different High Schools and on Monday and Tuesday we will be at Anaheim High School training a total of 300 students over the two days. Inspectors who have not heard from the students assigned to their polling place can call the Poll Worker Customer Service Line (714) 954-1901.  We have recruited nearly 2,500 students for this election.
