It has been 10 days since the Statewide Special Election.  See below for important updates.
The ROV has recruited 4,376 poll workers for the Statewide Special Election.
The ROV recruited 347 County employees willing to work as County Poll Workers for May 19th.

The ROV recruited 932 poll sites for May 19th.

Orange County was the first of the large counties to post results on Election Night and the first large county to certify in the State as of today.

The poll site boxes (pictured above) from the May 19th election contain nearly 45,000 individual supplies that we must receive and inventory.

Our next election is right around the corner (June 2nd) as we count the ballots for the OCERS Retirement Board election.

» Special Election Certification Set For Today!
In a little less than two weeks we have completed the final counts, audits, verifications, roster checks and tally for the Special Election.  The final turnout is 27.8% (beating the statewide average of 24%).  Of this turnout 18.6% were cast by mail while 9.2% were cast at the poll sites (for a total of 445,385 ballots cast).  The official certified copy will be sent to the Secretary of State.

» Election Night Speed Was in Full Gear
Shown at right is a Registrar of Voters' staff member processing an arriving Judges Booth Controller (JBC) from a poll site.  These came in from 12 collection centers throughout the County under the guard of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.  We were one of the first counties done on Election Night (at midnight).  We processed 932 JBCs, 932 supply boxes and nearly 45,000 supplies.

» Electrical Cords and Power Strips Need Care
Shown at right we are receiving back thousands of power strips and electrical cords from poll sites.  These must be checked carefully for any defects and prepared for storage.  These are critical to poll site operations as they supply the main power to the JBC and the printers in each of the voting booths.  This is one of hundreds of checks we will perform on returning equipment.

» Only a Handful of Voting Booths Not Returned        We have been receiving voting booths back from our trucking vendors at a fast pace.  All but two sites have been picked up (nearly 8,500 booths) and returned to our warehouse.  Once they arrive they are sorted, stacked and logged in to our inventory.  We will begin service and maintenance on this equipment soon in preparation for the June 2010 Primary Election.

» Bees and More at Orange County Poll Sites        We respond to some unusual calls on Election Day but this is one of the more unusual.  Shown at left is the actual bee hive we encountered at a poll site in Placentia on May 19th.  Several media outlets covered the story after we received the call of "massive" bees affecting voting at the poll site.  You can read the entire story here.
