| ยป What is the importance of tracking the precinct supplies and why are you doing it?
Understanding why we are tracking precinct supplies will help you to understand the process as well. Many citizens, groups and organizations throughout the county rely on the results of elections for their future, or the future of their city or district. It is critical to stakeholders, on both sides of important issues, to know as soon as possible the results of elections.
In past elections Orange County simply posted results once or twice on Election Night. In an effort to provide improved service to the citizens of the county, we began to post Election Night results every 30 minutes (following the first posting) in November of 2004. This was very successful but the period between results, and the time spent waiting for the first results, were still a problem.
By tracking the supplies (election returns) leaving the poll sites we can show all of the stakeholders when and where the results are scheduled to arrive. This allows interested parties the time to prepare for arriving results, or to check and compare data as it arrives. Our view is that this process should be more open and we will continue to improve on these efforts. |
